A Magic Wand Is a ‘Nuclear Bomb’ in the New Trailer for the Fantasy Cop MovieBright

The goal of Netflix ’s Bright is understandably to slam together the tropes of the buddy cop moving-picture show with those of fancy . So we ’ve obtain a veteran cop in Will Smith ’s Officer Ward and a newbie and first Orc officeholder in Joel Edgerton ’s Jakoby . And then they stumble onto a magic wand that causes real problems .

Bright , as we ’ve take note before , is understandably not shying away from using the Orcs / humans tautness as an allegory for racial discrimination . Everything about the way Orcs are framed in this trailer makes that clear . But you ’ve also get what come along to be elves running around , including Ward and Jakoby ’s superior policeman .

Smith ’s very much in his heady - cracking element here , but everything else moves a bit fast for me to get a grip on whether this is function to be something I rush to learn when it hit Netflix on December 22 .
