The crater measures about 100 feet ( 30 meters ) in diam . The image , snapped by the High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment ( HiRISE ) camera on NASA ’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter , show a large , rayed blast zone that painted the surface with a form of hopeful and dark-skinned tones . Because of the dusty terrain , the reinvigorated volcanic crater appears in drab in the enhanced colour of the image ; NASA says this is due to the remotion of the reddish dust in that area .
The encroachment throw stuff , or ejecta , as far as 9.3 miles ( 15 kilometers ) .

The new volcanic crater is located at 3.7 academic degree north parallel , 53.4 degree east longitude — so set your Martian GPS .
