I kind of lovemaking Terra Nova — there ’s something terribly endear about a show that aim so doggedly at “ epic , ” only to fell off in more or less random directions instead . And I would still observe Stephen Lang acting opposite a accumulation of inflatable rubber dinosaurs and brain - damaged half - indifferent ex - Aerosmith roadies .

Nevertheless , last night ’s sequence was just uncommonly punk . Largely thanks to the show ’s unexampled uber - villain , Lucas Taylor . Plus once again , shocking revelations head to almost no consequences . Also , the show ’s two potent distaff badasses — Mira and Wash — have been whole relegated to “ flunky ” condition . ( This was especially noticeable with Wash , who find the Sixer mole after Shannon had tried and fail several times — only to have Shannon steal the credit and stamp her around . )
But most of all , last night ’s episode featured some of the greatest dialogue the show has ever seen . Here are our favorite snippets :
“ It ’s a long way down . You ’ll do it or I ’ll cast out your female parent over the side , and she ’ll find out just how far it really is . So you well get displace , Bucket . ”
Lucas Taylor proves how sinister he is , while “ Bucket ” concern about her pathetic pale saintly mother . What I love about this line is that Lucas get out with an implied threat : “ It ’s a foresightful way down . ” And then he adjudicate that was too elusive . So he clarify : “ I mention that it ’s a farseeing way down not just for informational purposes , but so that you ’ll realize that I ’m going to throw your mother off . ” And then he decide that was still too indirect , so he adds a further clarification : “ And then she ’ll be able-bodied to find out for herself how far down it is , because I will give her a tape measure before I confound her off . Maybe one of those ones from the Hardware Store , that she can hook onto the side . ” Then he adds , for further emphasis , that this threat is not just general , but is designate to encourage her to get move . prissy use of the byname “ Bucket , ” too . Because it ’s sinister and belittling .

Later , in another one of Lucas and Bucket ’s 1000 scene together , he spouts off my absolute favorite line of dialogue of all time . I be intimate that it ’s not just Shakespearean , but it borders on Greek tragedy . Because just being Shakespearean by itself would n’t be nerveless enough — but if you mention both Shakespeare and Sophocles , you get Triple Culture point . What I really love about this business line is that it attempt to ascribe some larger-than-life signification to Lucas ’ pappa publication , but only succeeds in making them seem more petty and overblown . ( I know , I already comment on the wondrousness of this lineyesterday . )

“ Out , Bucket , I have piece of work to do . Do n’t make me secernate you twice . ”
More amazeballs duologue from Lucas , who really needs a moniker of his own , to go with “ Bucket . ” possibly “ Stick ? ” Or “ Hole ? ”
“ What ? I ’ve been grounded since I add up through the vena portae . ”
I enjoy that the openhanded drama in Josh ’s lifetime is that he keeps getting grounded . More to the spot , Josh ’s lie indirectly lead to Bucket get away with doing Hole ’s bidding for a morsel longer , thus allowing her to get inside the Eye and stop the calculations to sour the Portal into a two - direction thingy . I do n’t really understand Josh ’s character any more — he ’s still slightly obnoxious , like when he ’s obstreperously playing with his glob , but he does n’t really have any personality of his own any more . At least he remembered about Kara , his girlfriend from the future who ’s supposedly coming through with the Eleventh Pilgrimage .

Annnnd then there ’s Quark . Remember Quark ? I call back we ’re supposed to consider he ’s a busted man , judge from how eager he is to ingratiate himself with Jim Shannon by giving away valuable piece of equipment to Shannon ’s dorky daughter . The whole “ Maddie needs a fresh splintering for her iPad ” subplot was perhaps the most throwaway subplot this show has ever done , and it ended so as a formality , I kept require there to be more to it somehow . In any case , I like the fact that Maddie is unforced to exploit her dad ’s job for personal profit . That ’s the most interesting matter she ’s ever done .
“ I ’ve always found it so unknown why people require to be like their fathers . Not me , I just want to destroy mine . ”
I guess this was the “ pop issues ” episode , since we found out that Skye ’s buckety nickname comes from her soldier father . And meanwhile , Josh lie to his papa once again , while Maddie use her pa ’s job to get devoid shit . And then there ’s the epical opposition between Taylor Pere and Fils . But we ’ll come to that in a moment .
“ He ’s a man , not a deity . But do n’t tell him that – you ’ll offend his feelings . ”
The Lucas Taylor dialogue never gets older . frankly . He ’s like ten cheesemonger .
“ Oh , that ’s the spirit . Go down combat , for , for a dream – some Sion and all that ’s correct and true . Open your centre , old piece . It ’s over . I win . before long you ’ll be on your knee beg me for mercy . The next time we meet , I wo n’t be alone . ”
There needed to be more “ hnar hnar hnar ” laugh with this speech communication . Actually , I ’m begin to think watching Stephen Lang act opposite inflatable dinosaurs and deaf / brain - damaged Aerosmith roadies would be more entertaining . The thing that wiretap me during this scene was that Lucas keep saying “ You ca n’t shoot me or you ’ll damage the portal and be cut off from the future . ” And I was essentially shouting at the screen , “ DO IT . SHOOT THE PORTAL . ” It would figure out all their problem in one go , and a great deal of people would be part with .

I ’m not going to reproduce it here in its entirety , but there was a lot of stuff about how the people in Terra Nova did n’t sign up for this , but now he ’s get going to involve more of them than he ’s ever asked of them before , and every one of them can be a hero , and they have to choose whether to struggle for their home or just let the malign corporations come in and take everything , etc . It ’s more or less the same speech Taylor ’s given in every instalment , except with more added “ this is the Pb - up to the final battle . ” I did like him say that everybody in Terra Nova had abide great hardship and carve out a living in this harsh environs — just like Maddie endured severeness in this episode , with her iPad running out of assault and battery life . That was really tough for Maddie . She had to sputter a lot , because the environment was coarse .
Next week , we finally get the big showdown and see out whether this show has really been worth stick with . In bitchiness of a lot of bumps along the way , I still persist passably optimistic that we ’ll get a bang - out finale that brings all the interesting themes of the show into focus .
