There are some storybook creatures that seem to have some serious cultural staying power : lamia , loup-garou , fairies , and , of course , witch . But what is it about stories about witches that keep us coming back for more after so long ?
Once I realized what chronicle I was write I very much hoped to subvert the usual witch persecution tale as well as the common ideas of what a crone is and what power can be . I also really want to highlight how this persecution of cleaning lady is so dominant in our culture that it is n’t even seen , and is so pervasive that it is handed down through generation so that even the witch , as a mythological being the symbol of women ’s great power , is ordinarily link with evil . That really bother me . The older witch lineament has been appearing in many forms of my work for years , though none of those pieces were published . I recollect she came from my elderly neighbor when I was growing up who bury it was Halloween one year and sound out . She came home to incur her business firm chalked with “ witch . ” She tell apart me this the next day , in tears .
