Captain Tom Moorehas been hospitalized with COVID-19.
The 100-year-old British World War II veteran, whoraised millions for U.K.’s National Health Servicelast year, was admitted to Bedford Hospital on Sunday, his daughter Hannah Ingram-Moore said in astatementon his Twitter account.
“I want to update everybody that today (Sunday 31st January) my father was admitted to the hospital,” she wrote. “Over the last few weeks he was being treated for pneumonia and last week tested positive for COVID-19.”
Ingram-Moore continued, “He was at home with us until today when he needed additional help with his breathing. He is being treated in a ward, although he is not in ICU.”

Ingram-Moore also said her father’s medical care over the last few weeks has been “remarkable and we know that the wonderful staff at Bedford Hospital will do all they can to make him comfortable and hopefully return home as soon as possible.”
“We understand that everyone will be wishing him well,” she added. “We are of course focusing on my father and will update you when we are able to.”
He later received an astonishing 125,000 birthday cards from people all over the globe,including messages fromPrince WilliamandKate Middleton, former Olympian Kelly Holmes, English football star Harry Kane andQueen Elizabeth.

Born in Keighley, Yorkshire, Moore attended Keighley Grammar School before earning an apprenticeship as a civil engineer, a description on hisJustGiving page reads. At the beginning of World War II, he was enlisted in the 8 DWR (145 RAC) of the British army.
He was later selected for officer training in 1940 and went on to serve in India, Indonesia and England, the page notes.
After his wife Pamela died in 2006, Moore moved in with Ingram-Moore, her husband and their two children in Bedfordshire,CNNreported.
