Ahead of the New Empire trailer , director Adam Wingard ( who antecedently helm the first GvK ) toldIGNabout leaning into the “ pure mental imagery ” of the premise and letting the monsters experience more like characters rather than just plant pieces for the humans to respond to . There ’ll be fairly wide sequences ( of around eight minute overall ) where they ’re “ just doing they ’re own affair ” when they ’re not trying to smash up building or one another ’s expression in . More than the old motion-picture show , state Wingard , New Empire “ allows the monsters to state their own narrative in a visual , gestural way . ”

If you think it ’s maybe a little too soon for Godzilla and Kong to be linking up again , Wingard begs to take issue . Once the first GvK hit theaters and HBO Max , he remember wanting to keep the two monsters in each other ’s field .
