Colorado Rep.Lauren Boebert’s son Tyler Jay Boebert has been arrested on felony charges connected to a recent string of property thefts and vehicle trespasses, authorities revealed on Tuesday night.

The Rifle Police Department in Coloradoshared on Facebookthat Tyler, 18, is facing “four felony counts of Criminal Possession ID Documents - Multiple Victims, one felony count of Conspiracy to Commit a Felony, and over 15 additional misdemeanor and petty offenses.”

“This is an ongoing investigation, no further information will be released at this time. All suspects are considered innocent until adjudicated guilty in a court of law,” the statement added.

The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office lists Tyleramong its current inmates, with no information about bond or a release date.

A spokesperson for Congresswoman Boebert, 37, offered PEOPLE the following statement.

“I love my son Tyler, who has been through some very difficult, public challenges for a young man and the subject of attention that he didn’t ask for,” Boebert said in the statment. “It breaks my heart to see my child struggling and, in this situation, especially when he has been provided multiple opportunities to get his life on track. I will never give up on him and I will continue to be there for him. As an adult and father, Tyler will take responsibility for his actions and should be held accountable for poor decisions just like any other citizen.”

Tyler’s arrest comes weeks afterLauren’s ex-husband was arrestedfollowing an allegedpublic altercationinvolving the former couple.

The Silt Police Department in northwest Colorado confirmed to PEOPLE at the time that it had launched an investigation after Jayson claimed he was a victim of domestic violence, alleging that his ex-wife “punched” him in the face multiple times at a restaurant.

“It’s an ongoing investigation,” Silk Police Chief Mike Kite said. “Law enforcement did respond to the Miner’s Claim [a restaurant located in Silt] on Saturday, for an incident involving Lauren and her ex-husband.”

Kite added: “Right now, we’re waiting to interview some additional witnesses and checking on some additional security footage.

Lauren, in a statement shared with PEOPLE, called the incident “a sad situation for all,” saying, “I didn’t punch Jayson in the face and no one was arrested. I will be consulting with my lawyer about the false claims he made against me and evaluate all of my legal options.”

She was granted a restraining order against Jayson in early February,CBS Newsreported.

Lauren — whofiled for divorce from Jayson last spring, citing irreconcilable differences — has represented Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District since 2021.

Acontroversialfar-right politician, she has previously made headlines for calling her Republican primary challenger “groomer” (a term for a person who sexually abuses children), and for vowing in political ads tocarry a weaponto work in Congress. She once reportedly got into a standoff with Capitol Police when sherefused to allow officers to search her bagafter setting off metal detectors just days after the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riots.

Lauren narrowlysecured a second term in November 2022after underdog Democratic challenger Adam Frischcame within 600 votesof unseating her, triggering an automatic recount.

In December, she announced thatshe would run in a different, more solidly Republican congressional districtin 2024, avoiding a likely rematch with Frisch.
