A recent high school graduate’s design work is going viral online after she showed off the impressive ball gown she created from start to finish for her graduation ball (similar to a senior prom).
Ciara Gan, a 17-year-old teen from the Philippines, designed, painted and sewed together the strapless ball gown covered in intricate floral appliqués with just a little help from her mom. Once she completed the design, she posted multiple photos wearing it the day of the ball on Twitter, along with one image as she stitched the skirt and another as she painted.

“I painted over 80 flowers, sewed + stoned my dress with my mama and designed the whole thing myself!” she added. The entire project took around a month, with about two weeks for the actual sewing and painting process.
Gan tells PEOPLE her mom was the reason she ultimately decided to create the gown. “My inspiration came from my mom who pushed me to make the dress! Because I love to try new things, I thought, why not? It was my last big event for school and I had about a month of graduation practices so I’d be able to focus more on making my gown without worrying about school work,” she says.

Gan replied hinting that she might pursue a future in the fashion business. “i’m not saying no to opportunities!! ” she said.
Other Twitter users applauded Gan for her hard work. “A real DIY QUEEN

,” someonewrote.
However, once Gan heads to college in the fall, she plans on going into a science-related field instead of fashion. But she may pursue design in the future and plans on painting more gowns for fun going forward.
“I plan to pursue a degree in a science-related course since I recently graduated from a STEM [school],” she tells us. “I am in love with both the arts and sciences so I want to incorporate [those] two different things [together]. I want to bring art into science, or vice versa.”
